Jessica is the star of our 2023 cria births. She has her dam’s sweet personality and coloring, but pulled all of her fiber characteristics from her 3x champion sire. Jessica’s fiber is developing a strong crimp structure, which is blended with her dam’s fineness. Her head and conformation are true to her sire, so she has a strong build and a very full face of fleece.
Lineage
Jessica’s sire is Snowmass Occult. Occult is a three-time Color Champion herdsire that brings top 15% EPDs in fineness and curvature to our herd. He has an exceptional phenotype and pedigree. He is the offspring of Snowmass Enchanted and Snowmass Loves Grace. His pedigree also includes top Snowmass producers that include Snowmass Matrix, Snowmass Quechua, Snowmass Accoyocusani, Snowmass Nova, and Snowmass Conopa XXX.
Color Genotype EE a1a1
Jessica’s color genotype is EE a1a1 and she carries the classic grey gene. Her ASIP alleles show she has a black allele in both locations. Her MC1R alleles show she has no dilution. This genotype combination tells us she cannot produce light-colored offspring. She will produce offspring that are dark fawn or darker, with a tendency for darker colors.
Training
Jessica spent all summer in 2024 training with Halle for the 4-H fair and competitions. She did great! We’re really proud of her willingness to stand proud in the show ring and strut herself through the obstacle course with Halle. By the end of fair week you could see Halle loved Jessica and Jessica really loved Halle. 4-H grows on our farm and we love watching both the kids and alpacas grow through the experience.
