We entered into 2025 with plans to open up the farm as we normally do each spring. As we started to approach spring, I began my annual planning and prep work. Well, let me just say things don’t always go as planned.
We’ve run into staffing issues, which has led to the difficult decision to take a “gap year” in 2025. I’ve struggled with this decision, because I don’t want to disappoint the humans who come to our farm or the alpacas who love visiting with those humans.
I know this is the best decision for our staff and our family, but it doesn’t make it any easier.
I’ve always viewed our business as the little farm that could. We’ve been operating onsite tours and a store, we have a very active online store, we run a 4-H group for alpacas, we serve as board of directors for our industry’s national and state associations, we make our own USA made products, and I’m in the middle of publishing a book for new alpaca owners. Our business does a lot of different things, and our onsite activities are only a small part of our workload. While we would love to keep all those things humming along, we simply don’t have enough time in the day to accomplish everything, so we’ve had to make some hard decisions on what is feasible for 2025.
We hope this time next year we will be in a better position to open to the public. In the meantime, please keep an eye out some open farm weekends and for new products arriving to our online store. If all goes as planned, we’ll have a fancy new industrial sock machine to show off next year when you visit.
As things change, I’ll keep our website blog and our social accounts updated.
Thank you visiting the farm, loving on our alpacas, and sharing laughs with us over the years. We hope to see you at an open farm weekend in the coming months.
