Our farm favorite knit alpaca hats are handmade by Grandma Lil with yarn made locally from our alpaca herd. Each hat is made with 100% alpaca fiber that was grown right here on on our farm.

Meet the Alpacas

• Captain America: Cappy is one of our 4-H boys and is not best friends with Chase. He loves to give kisses, but petting depends heavily on his mood that day. That’s okay. Cappy is adorable no matter what is mood is.
• Chase: Chase is a favorite of son Hunter and farm visitors. While he is not part of our breeding herd, he is a top fiber producer and an integral part of our 4-H activities with the area youth. Chase always win the 4-H obstacle course, but he is known for having ants in his pants for showmanship competitions.
• Nibbler: Nibbler is full of love and energy! She arrived at our farm in the winter of 2020 and quickly became a major presence in the herd. She actively seeks human affection and demands attention from all those who enter the pasture or barn. She also likes to talk and hum to both alpacas and humans. She is human mom’s favorite alpaca and is treated as such. She loves carrots, apples, and a good snuggle.
• High Velocity: High Velocity is the mother to Nibbler. Unlike her very quirky daughter, High Velocity is a low key alpaca who is an exceptional momma.
• Piper: Piper is a quiet momma who tends to produce children with strong personalities. We haven’t figured out why. Both her daughters (Petiti and Sweetie) tend to run their herds and make sure everyone knows they are present.

Is this hat soft enough for people with sensitive skin?

Yes and this is attributed to three factors:

1. These hat is made from natural alpaca fiber that is lanolin free, so people who cannot wear wool due to lanolin sensitivity will be comfortable in this hat.
2. Alpaca fiber has smaller and more frequent scales than other natural materials, which is a contributing factor to creating that soft feel on your skin.
3. These hats use grade 2 (baby alpaca fiber) and grade 3 (superfine fiber), which has been tested to have a micron level that is suitable for placement against the skin and particularly the face.

Is this hat reversible?

Can this alpaca hat get wet?

Yes. Alpaca is naturally water-repellent and it can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture before feeling wet.

How does an alpaca compare to cashmere or sheep wool?

While cashmere is the softest and sheep wool is the most elastic, an alpaca hat is the best overall choice because it outperforms warmth, hypoallergenic, durability, resistance to weather, and odor control.
